On September 14th, 1998 we launched our third fund, then called Fondita 2000+. In 2022, the fund was renamed Fondita Global Megatrends, however the strategy and the focus remain the same. The fund is an actively managed thematic global equity fund that invests in shares of publicly traded companies that are well-positioned towards three topical megatrends: An Environmentally and Climate smart future, Increased demand for Healthcare and Wellbeing, and Digitalization and Technological Development. The three megatrends are still, 26 years later, highly current.
Megatrends are powerful, transformative forces that change the direction of development for society, business and the global economy. Within every megatrend we find more detailed trends, subthemes with shorter timeframes. In our view, broad megatrends can’t be captured in one single investment, but by analyzing subthemes the opportunities are better captured. The key is to identify the potential for structural changes and to invest early in expected transformations. We look at which sectors and companies benefit from shifted priorities in society and what structural changes drive long-term growth.
Fondita Global Megatrends has delivered an average net return of 7.8 % p.a. since launch (as per 31.8.2024)*, with significant outperformance compared to the MSCI World Index. The fund is managed by our portfolio managers Janna Haahtela and Marcus Björkstén.
As we look towards the next quarter century, we strongly believe that the fund will continue to deliver added value and remain an interesting and unique option for investors looking to gain exposure to the megatrends shaping our future.
